Rhode Island Utility Guide — Rhode Island Energy

1-to-1 Net Metering with ConnectedSolutions Battery Incentive

Net Metering Program

Rhode Island Energy offers 1-to-1 net metering for customer-owned solar systems.

Each kWh your system exports earns a credit at nearly the full retail rate — you lose only the renewable energy and energy efficiency charges (approximately 2.2–2.5 cents per kWh).

Dollar Credits (Not kWh)

Excess credits roll forward indefinitely on your account as dollar credits (not kWh).

Optional Cash-Out

Starting February 2024, you can optionally request a cash-out of accumulated credits at the lower Last Resort Service supply rate, or transfer credits to another account in your name.

Fixed Charges

You will still receive a monthly bill for fixed customer charges that cannot be offset by solar.

ConnectedSolutions — Battery Incentive

Rhode Island Energy's ConnectedSolutions program pays battery customers for reducing grid draw during peak demand periods.

How It Works

  • Performance-based payment per average kW curtailed during dispatch events
  • Events are summer-weighted
  • The program does not call events during outages or in the two days before predicted severe weather
  • Enrollment is voluntary

RECs

Rhode Island solar customers are eligible for Class 1 NEPOOL-GIS RECs.

Venture Home handles registration for eligible customer-owned systems.
