Snow Guards: Protecting What's Below

When snow does slide off solar panels, it doesn't always do so gradually. Panels are slick and angled, and a large accumulated sheet of snow can release all at once — dropping a significant weight of snow and ice off the edge of your roof in a single event.

For many installations this isn't a concern. But if your panels are positioned above high-traffic areas, it's worth thinking about.

When Snow Guards Matter

Snow guards are worth considering if any of the following apply:

High-Priority Situations:

  • ✓ Panels are directly above your front or back door
  • ✓ Panels overhang a driveway or parking area where vehicles park
  • ✓ Panels are above a deck, patio, or outdoor area with regular foot traffic
  • ✓ You have a hot tub, outdoor furniture, or valuables below the panels
  • ✓ You've experienced rapid snow shedding that felt unsafe or surprising

What Snow Guards Do

Venture Home offers and installs snow guards — small devices that attach to the panel racking.

How they work:

  • Break up snow accumulation
  • Cause snow to release gradually rather than all at once
  • Prevent the "avalanche" effect

What they don't do:

  • ❌ Prevent snow from clearing
  • ❌ Reduce solar production
  • ❌ Damage panels or racking

💡 Snow guards control how snow comes off, not whether it comes off.
