Monitoring Your Solar System by Manufacturer

Your solar system can be monitored through a manufacturer-specific app that gives you real-time and historical performance data. This guide covers how to access and interpret monitoring for each major system type.

Enphase Systems

Getting Started

Download: Enphase App (App Store or Google Play)

Account Setup:

  • Create an Enphase account or log in if one was set up during installation
  • Not sure if you have an account? Contact Customer Success and we'll help you get set up

What You'll See

The home screen gives you a real-time snapshot of your system:

  • Current power production
  • Home energy consumption
  • Battery status (if equipped) — charge level and charging/discharging state

The energy flow diagram shows the relationship between your solar panels, battery, home, and grid at any given moment.

Production History: View by day, week, month, or year. Useful for tracking seasonal trends and comparing current production to previous periods.

If You Have an Enphase Battery

Full visibility into:

  • Battery state of charge
  • How it's being used
  • Backup mode settings
  • Adjustable settings: Reserve percentage for outages (directly in app)

What Does Normal Look Like?

Clear day: Production graph shows a smooth bell curve:

  • Zero before sunrise
  • Climbing through morning
  • Peaking early afternoon
  • Tapering to zero by sunset

Shorter, flatter curves are normal in winter or on cloudy days.

Red flags: Flat lines during daylight, sudden drops, or days with zero production.

SolarEdge Systems

Getting Started

Download: mySolarEdge App (App Store or Google Play)

Account Setup:

  • Log in with your SolarEdge account credentials
  • Need help? Contact Customer Success

What You'll See

Dashboard shows:

  • Current power output
  • Today's total energy production
  • Lifetime generation

Panel-Level Data: SolarEdge's standout feature — see exactly how each panel is performing. Makes it easy to spot if a single panel is underperforming due to shading or another issue.

What Does Normal Look Like?

Production: Bell curve on sunny days, peaking early afternoon, zero overnight.

Panel-Level View: All panels should show similar output levels. If one panel is consistently significantly lower, that's worth flagging.

Tesla Systems

Getting Started

Download: Tesla App (App Store or Google Play)

Account Setup:

  • Log in with your Tesla account
  • Your solar system appears under your home's energy products
  • Don't see it? Contact Customer Success

What You'll See

Energy Tab: Real-time view of your home's energy flow showing:

  • Solar production
  • Home consumption
  • Grid usage
  • Battery status (if equipped)

Tap into each category for more detail. View history by day, week, month, or year.

If You Have a Tesla Powerwall

Full control over:

  • Backup reserve percentage
  • Operating mode:
    • Self-powered
    • Time-based control
    • Backup-only
  • Storm Watch activation
  • Battery charge level and daily charge/discharge tracking

What Does Normal Look Like?

Production: Smooth bell curve on sunny days.

Energy Flow: Healthy system shows:

  • Day: Energy flowing from solar → home and battery
  • Night: Energy flowing from battery/grid → home

SunPower Systems

SunPower customers may use one of three apps depending on system age and configuration:

Not Sure Which App?

Check your installation documentation or contact Customer Success — we'll confirm which app applies to your system.

Option 1: SunPower App

Download: App Store or Google Play

Features:

  • Current production dashboard
  • Daily and historical generation
  • Estimated savings

Login: SunPower account credentials

Option 2: Enphase App

Some SunPower systems use Enphase microinverters and are monitored through the Enphase App.

See: [[#Enphase Systems|Enphase monitoring section above]]

Option 3: SunStrong App

Newer SunPower systems use the SunStrong App (introduced as part of SunPower's transition to SunStrong as service provider).

Download: App Store or Google Play

Features:

  • Real-time production
  • Historical data
  • System alerts

What Does Normal Look Like?

Regardless of app:

  • Bell curve on sunny days — rising morning, peaking early afternoon, zero by sunset
  • Consistent daily production with no gaps or flat lines during daylight

Quick Reference: Normal Production Patterns

Condition What to Expect
Sunny day Smooth bell curve, peaks early afternoon
Partly cloudy Bell curve with dips when clouds pass
Overcast Lower, flatter curve but still producing
Winter Shorter curve (fewer daylight hours), lower peak
Night Zero production (this is normal!)

Red Flags to Watch For

Contact Customer Success if you see:

  • ❌ Flat line during daylight hours
  • ❌ Sudden drop to zero that doesn't recover
  • ❌ Multiple days with zero production
  • ❌ One panel significantly lower than others (SolarEdge systems)
  • ❌ Error codes or alerts in your app
